Plagiarism Policy

The policy of INGENIO TECNOLÓGICO is to publish original works, written by those who declare their authorship, and unpublished, they cannot have been previously published in any printed or electronic medium.

Given the limitations of automatic plagiarism detection programs with the Spanish language and in order to respond to broader aspects that are registered as plagiarism practices -among them translations, fragmentation of results or “salami slicing”, duplication, among others - the journal implements a specific procedure to avoid it, which is presented below:

  1. When submitting an article, the authors are asked to declare that the article has not been previously published or sent to other journals for evaluation.
  2. They are asked to declare that they are following the Guidelines for Authors, which establishes that the articles to be submitted must be original.
  3. Upon receiving the article and before sending it for evaluation, Internet search tools are used in order to track down other works by the authors and check the title, abstract fragments, the methodological section and the results. of the article submitted for review, in order to corroborate the originality and avoid plagiarism practices.
  4. When sending it to evaluate the peer reviewers, the evaluators are also asked to pay attention to possible indicators of plagiarism, since they are the ones who know the sources and the literature on the subject.

The journal considers plagiarism to the practices that are listed and explained below:

  1. Direct plagiarism, This type is incurred when:
    a. There is omission of authorship and what is taken from another text is not indicated with quotation marks.
    b. Minimal changes are made to the text of another (the sentence structure is modified, lowercase is substituted for uppercase or vice versa, synonyms are used, etc.) and it is presented as original.
  2. Plagiarism due to the inappropriate use of paraphrase, is carried out when:
    a. Although authorship is noted, the original text is reproduced with a few changes that are not paraphrased.
  3. Complex plagiarism using a reference, is committed when:
    a. The original authorship reference exists, but the source pages are inaccurately marked.
    b. Paraphrasing in which long texts are summarized, but with little or no indication that they correspond to paraphrases.
    c. Absence of quotation marks in words and phrases of the original text that are reproduced verbatim.
  4. Plagiarism with single quotes, is done when:
    a. A verbatim quotation continues to play after quotation marks have been closed or it is omitted that the preceding sentences correspond to the same quotation.
  5. Paraphrasing as plagiarism occurs when:
    a. There is paraphrasing and the reference to the original source is not noted.
    b. The paraphrasing is continuous and extensive, no material is added to allow interaction or enrich the information, even though the source is mentioned.
    c. Academic works –which require original thoughts and critical reflections on other people's points of view– become texts that do not exceed the repetition of other academic texts.
    d. The paraphrased passages are not clearly identified as such.
    Plagiarism is not considered when:
    e. It does not dominate over the work of the writer.
    f. It is used to allow the author to interact critically with the points of view of another person.
    g. The argument of the original text is rewritten in different words.
  6. "Self-plagiarism" or recycling fraud, is committed when:
    a. The appearance of a job is changed and it is presented as if it were a different one.
    b. The indication that the work is being recycled, that is, that it is a previously published work but with corrections or new additions is omitted.
It is not considered self-plagiarism when:
    a. Previous work is the basis for a new contribution, and key parts must be repeated to explain and defend the new arguments.
    b. The author considers that what he has already said cannot be said in a better way for the new publication.
    c. Repetition does not exceed 30% of the original work.

Ethical aspects and conflicts of interest

The publication of INGENIO TECNOLÓGICO is the collective result of the work and effort of authors, editors and evaluators who are interested in the development of science. For this reason, and within the framework of the open access policy to which it adheres, the journal will not charge authors or readers any charge for publication, the articles being immediately available in open access.

The editors of the magazine undertake to avoid the existence of any conflict of interest between the actors involved in the production. All text sent will be evaluated for its intellectual content, avoiding the ethnic or national belonging of the authors, their gender, their sexual orientation, their religious beliefs, or their political philosophy from interfering in the process. In the same way, those external evaluations that interpose any personal position to the quality of the work will be rejected.

Authors and evaluators are asked to state in advance any relevant conflicts of interest that they may have, so that they can be taken into account when assigning evaluations. If any conflict arises after the publication of the contribution, if necessary, a retraction or manifestation of the fact will be made. A “conflict of interest” is understood to be any situation in which there is a divergence between the personal interests of an individual and their responsibilities regarding the scientific activities that they carry out, whether as authors, reviewers or members of the editorial committee, which may influence their critical judgment and the integrity of their actions. Conflicts of interest can be:

  • Economic: when the participant (author / reviewer / editor) has received or expects to receive money for activities related to research and its dissemination
  • Academics: when reviewers or editors adhere to a certain methodological or ideological trend in such a way that they may be biased to evaluate the work of others. For this reason, they are asked to express themselves in advance.
  • Personal or work relationships: when the participants (authors / reviewers / editors) have some kind of friendship, enmity or employment relationship. To avoid this, editors should take into account the sources of funding and the affiliation of the authors, to choose reviewers who do not belong to those specific circles.
